This covered market is found at the northeastern corner of the island, in a peculiar setting between U-Thong Rd and Klong Ku Muang, the channel connecting Ayutthaya’s two rivers. It is accessible through several entrances on U-Thong Rd, and through a narrow bridge connecting to the other side of the channel, good only for pedestriand and bikes.

There are two main buildings. The bigger one, facing on U-Thong Rd, is a tall yellow structure oddly shaped in a sort of semicircle to the east, with vehicles circulating on internal alleys. These alleys have names and are marked by road signs. This section of the market hosts chiefly non-food shops: clothing, tools, household items, etc.

The other building, smaller, is located on the western side and next to the channel and bridge. There are no walls here, but one upper floor hosting the market’s administrative office. On the rear, there is a small San Jao (Chinese-tyle temple). This section of the market hosts especially food stalls of all kinds.

This market deserves a visit if you are already in the area. You can have lunch here or at one of several food stalls just outside, on the main street. Starting from around 17:30, however, the place to go for shopping and dinner is the nearby night market Na Wangchankasem, open until about 23:00.

For other popular markets in the area, see also Chao Phrom.
