The entrance of Wat Phra Kaeo
Wat Phra Kaeo is inclusive of more than hundred vibrantly colored constructions, golden spires and sparkling mosaics. These works date back to the period when Bangkok was founded around 1782.
The work of constructing the temple began in 1785, when King Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke (Rama I) shifted the capital to Bangkok from Thonburi. This temple is not like any other temples. There are no quarters made for the monks of the temple, rather it only features pagodas, statues and highly decorated holy constructions. The famous Emerald Buddha is placed in the main building, which is the central ubosot.

The statue is made of real Emerald, and it is placed very high. Photography is strictly prohibited here.
