Visitor Tips

Located in Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat), this is one of the many dining options available to visitors and expats in the Isaan region of Thailand. When visiting restaurants in Korat, it is customary to order several dishes to share. Most restaurants in this area serve both Thai and international cuisine, and staff often speak some English.

Getting There

Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat) is located approximately 250 km northeast of Bangkok. You can reach Korat by bus from Bangkok’s Mo Chit terminal (about 3.5 hours), by train from Hua Lamphong station, or by minivan from Chatuchak. Tuk-tuks and songthaews (shared trucks) are the most common local transport within the city.

About Isaan Cuisine

The Isaan region of northeastern Thailand has its own distinct culinary tradition, influenced by Lao and Khmer cultures. Signature dishes include som tam (spicy papaya salad), larb (spiced minced meat salad), sticky rice (khao niao), and grilled chicken (gai yang). Food in Isaan tends to be spicier and more sour than central Thai food, using ingredients like padaek (fermented fish sauce) and fresh herbs.

Rong Beer Pavilion 101

This is probably the biggest and most famous bar in RoiEt. It’s located near Petcharat Garden hotel, in a small street with many other bars. Rong Beer is a place for listening to live bands playing Thai, Isaan and western songs. It used to be “open-air” with a roof few years ago. They renovated the place and it’s now fully covered. If you are in Roiet and want some good music, Rong Beer Pavilion is THE place to go. There is one pool table (20 baht?) but the main attractions are really the shows. The food is good and prices are reasonable. The concept of this place is very similar to Ta Wang Dang, a famous brand of bars all across Thailand. Some of the musicians in that band have been playing there for many years (at least more than 5 from what I remember!). They will play Caraboaw and other Thai folk songs. But you might have other bands and singers, like these 2 guys, doing some hip hop or rock modern songs. And obviously, in the heart of Isaan, you will always find some Isaan girls singing and dancing traditional songs. And in Roiet, these are very popular. You can literally see the crowd standing up and dancing crazily when Isaan music starts. The bar closes late, around 2am.

P-You bar, Roiet

This small bar opened at the end of 2009, beginning of 2010. It’s a charming place where you can have some drinks and cocktails and enjoy the young crowd of Roi Et. This place attracts foreigners and Thais, all age, but mostly people around 25-35. This bar is located in an old wooden house, near the corner of Padungpanict Road and Konpong 10 (often called “Soi Hello” by foreigners in Roiet). There are only few tables but the place gathered a lot of people, often starting at around 7-8pm until midnight. This is a picture of the bar. The menu has a butterfly form and is mainly composed of beer, drinks and cocktails. Young Thai girls will like “Lao pan”, a kind of mixture of Ice, Vodka, and syrop that you can have for cheap. Snacks are also available, like French fries. There is a giant screen on one Wall and the place is nicely decorated. Toilet paper dispenser in their bathrooms.

At first, it was an open site museum, collecting art objects from Prasat Phimai and its neighboring sites, and under the supervision of the Archaeology Division. Later in 1975, it was sponsored by the National Museums Division and established to be the regional museum of the Lower Isan. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn presided at the opening ceremony of Phimai National Museum on August 4th, 1993.   The museum is the center of cultural heritage in north-eastern Thailand, emphaxizing artifacts from the lower Isan, such as Nakhon Ratchasima, Chaiyaphum, Buri Ran, Surin and Si Sa Ket. The interesting art objects belong to Dvaravati and Khmer art styles. The Dvaravati style can be seen on Sima or boundary stone while the Khmer style is evident in stone carving of lintels, pendiments, pillars and antefixs. The master piece of the museum collection is the stone statue of King Jayavarman VII of Angkor Thom which was found in Prang Bhramadhatta, Prasat Phimai.:” Our pictures of the Phimai National Museum are here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/50651722@N03/sets/72157632149664989/ Source: Thailandmuseum.com

Koh Samui Aquarium and Tiger Zoo

33/2, Moo 2, Maret, Koh Samui, Suratthani, 84140 Thailand. Tel: +66 77 424 017-8 Fax: +66 77 424 019 Email: info@samuiorchid.com

Samui Aquarium is open 7 days a week from 9:00 am – 6:00 pm. We have mixed reviews for that place. First, the price is quite expensive: 750 baht per ticket. Children are cheaper. You are 4 people, that’s 3,000 baht already. Second, it’s quite old and not really nice. But the price include a sealion show, the aquarium, a bird show, a small zoo and a tiger show. The Aquarium is old but has nice specimen of fish. It is dark inside, probably for you not to see that it is old,but it makes fish look nicer! Some fish like these sharks are really in small ponds. The Aquarium in Rayong, for example, is much nicer and admission is about 30 baht! Or the Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo worths it for about 100 baht per person! You will spend hours, have access to a water park, etc. But not here. It’s limited to an aquarium, a small zoo with birds and squirrels, and a tiger show. One thing is nice: The sealions show is great. It normally starts at 1:30. Funny. Take a picture with a sealion at the end for 100 baht. Later, you can visit parts with birds, but again, it’s quite old. Small cages, and not nice. Birds and other animals (like squirrels, small monkeys) are inside these cages. At 2:30pm, it’s the bird show. Nothing to be impressed, but you will see some nice birds. The tiger show was about 15 minutes MAXIMUM. That was a lucky picture with bad light. A leopard did only one jump and he is right in the middle! But if you are in Samui and don’t know what to do, if you are tired of beaches, restaurants, bars, and need another activity, or if you are in family, then, the aquarium and tiger show might be for you. In total, we stayed between about 2 hours 30 minutes to see everything. This place is located into a resort called Samui Orchid. The Empress

GOOGLE EARTH PLACEMARK

The Empress is a REAL Chinese restaurant located in the Dusit Princess Hotel. They serve Dim Sun on lunch time and “a la carte” for dinner. It’s probably the most expensive restaurant in Korat, but the food is delicious. Patpong district in Bangkok

If Las Vegas is the Sin City, then Bangkok is no less than a Sin Capital. Here you will find several red light districts where the flesh and pleasure is abundant. Among the many red light districts, Patpong district is a bit different. Here, flesh trade pleasure is not the only exclusivity to men, you will find numerous tourists and foreigners are roaming around the jam-packed Patpong Night Market, buying several goods or visiting the nearby bars where the sensuous women are making sensual moves on the dance floors to lure the bunch of male customers. The atmosphere is wild, electric and intoxicating.

Located amid the famous Surawongse and Silom roads, Patpong is based within the close vicinity of the busy business district. There are many foreign visitors that visit the Night Market of Patpong to buy the newest international luxury items, but their main intention remains in finding the best bargain to get a hot girl. Though running of sex trade is not legal and the government of Bangkok has taken several measures to wipe of the flesh trade, but the fact remains that sex industry is very much active in this Patpong district.

Soi Patpong features several Go Go bars, which are immensely popular among the western tourists. However, the popularity of these bars is constantly increasing among the eastern visitors as well, like the Japanese tourists. Soi Patpong is the major attraction of this red light area. This is the place where you can find Night Market of Patpong that operates from 5pm to 2am. In the middle of the street you can find fakes of different varieties highly trendy attires that resemble Tiffany, Rolex and Coach. Several excellent local souvenirs can also be found in this market but the cost is very high. You need to bargain hard to get the right price.

Usually, all the watering holes and go go bars from at seven in the evening and get closed by 1 o’clock to avoid the police interference. Beer prices are moderate, rather low, if you compare to the prices that you pay in your home nation. However, you will not find a great variety of beer after entering these bars. Though, drinking beer is not the only intention of the visitors to get inside the go go bars. There are several ladies waiting out there to take the customers to the nearby hotels. These clubs and bars generally provide services to satisfy the male clients, however, there are some bars that take care of those people who prefer to partner with the third gender, known as “Katoey” in Thai or the lady-boys. Most of these lady-boys exactly resemble real lady so it is better to make adequate queries before hiring anyone for a nightstand.

The gay clients can also find some excellent choices in the Patpong district. The Silom 2 and 4 are the major centers where the gays enjoy nightout. There are several go goestablishments and gay bars in these streets that are placed within a small distance from Soi Patpong.

If you boast a colorful natural and want to enjoy some fling, you can visit the Patpong district.
